WannaCry - Ninajirachi, Porter Robinson (2026)
i've been anticipating the official release of this song ever since they debuted it in coachella. through the crunchy video recordings' microphones i immediately fell in love with it. it has that classic porter melody that gets so easily stuck in your head and fits in so perfectly into ninajirachi's recent album I Love My Computer (ILMC).
ninajirachi does a fantastic job with the vocals, but hearing porter's verse come in is so addictive to listen to, i can't stop chewing on it like candy. the melody and the cadence of the lyrics makes it so fun to sing along to
speaking of the lyrics, this song was an absolute home run for me even just aesthetically speaking because (if it wasn't obvious) i'm a big fan of computers. a song referencing the wannacry virus through the lens of a toxic love song is absolutely up my alley, bonus points if the virus itself is a character in the story.
i also like the ILMC reference with the "I took it too far" line, which could lend to the idea that maybe the computer is one of the characters in this toxic love story.
it's worth pointing out that the repetitive notes after the first chorus when everything slows down ("Finally out of luck") reminded me so much of 1Clarity (by Zedd ft. Foxes) it made me smile. i think he has a unique thumbprint when it comes to making music :)
i'll admit i only started listening to ninajirachi early this year after ILMC was mentioned as this one podcaster i listen to's favorite album of 2025, so i'm not the most familiar with her style.
regardless, she's a great musician with great taste in music (considering porter robinson was the first concert she ever went to, apparently). i'm really happy that she got to collaborate with one of her idols.
the music video is gorgeous. it actually has a beautiful blend of both artists' usual aesthetic for visualizers. sprawling 3D structures and glitching environments that reflect the music so well. not to mention the cute sequences at the latter half where the computer gets to see the world and dance with friends!

it's the perfect collab for two edm musicians who grew up heavily influenced by the internet and anime. sometimes, it feels like these two want to turn into anime characters themselves.

the music
my very first listen through ILMC was in a car ride trying to pass the time by familiarizing myself with it. it takes a while for me to warm up to certain songs, but i'm glad i gave it another chance because this album was a lot more fun for me than i initially gave it credit for (plus it helped when i could read the lyrics).
the music is so nostalgic, which i'm sure was part of her intention considering the themes of the album. it reminds me so much of going on youtube and jamming out to monstercat songs, looking for cool youtube intro music i could use to become the next Big Shot youtuber, like every 13 year old yearned for. despite that, this album still manages to bring such a cool modern flair to the sound that i can't help but dance out to. might be the sprinkling of hyperpop in there. what a beautiful combination.
there's a lot of talk about how this kind of music and the internet shaped her growing up for someone her age. a lot of ambitions to make cool things with the computer, seeing shock content, the digital mating rituals we do on socials, and enjoying what you do with your closest companion (the computer :3).

something i love is when an artist knows they've made a really catchy hook that they have to start with. unbelievably catchy song with a really beautiful digital arpeggio going on in the back as it builds up to the chorus. the bass is bumping in such a fun way in this song, i really enjoy every part of this song.
the contents of the lyrics are fun in their own way. i think looking at thirst traps in the lens of a 'mating ritual' the same way someone studies animals is so fun, because to most who do it, it kind of is. this kind of social "hacking" and light "manipulation" to get people to interact with your posts the way you want them to. posting at the perfect time, showing just enough to make them curious, leaving just enough unsaid to get them to ask more. the selfie that you captioned you'd "delete later :p" or the flex of your favorite vinyl that your crush also coincidentally just so happened to also like. dangling that hook line and sinker to get them in your dm's. really fun.
Sing Good
i love songs about music and making art, that's just a weakness i have and i've accepted that. maybe i was just in a particularly vulnerable position, but this song really got to my feelings. she makes art that finds its way to her and speaks through her, and i think that's such a good way to look at that. it isn't for anyone else, it's cause you like the way it feels to make it.
ninajirachi is able to write lyrics that is just so evocative of a time and place. she makes it so personal, but it's because of that that we're able to feel it and relate to it.
And I got a forty percent, but I didn't care / 'Cause, it meant I knew somethin' they didn't - i love how freeing this line is, the confidence to love your work despite what people might tell you. like being on the cusp of something new, fresh, and revolutionary, and knowing it. i could only imagine
despite being arguably the most mellow song, it still feels like it belongs in this album with its themes of nostalgia and having the computer as your companion.

a majority of the music videos are either visualizers or ninajirachi doing some usual white girl dancing, you know the ones. that isn't meant to be derogatory or anything, i think it's fun. go white girl go! here are some standout music videos though.
Fuck My Computer
anyone familiar with her work might know about her Fuck My Computer music video being basically shadow-banned for explicit content, so it has shockingly low videos on her youtube. it won't even embed properly on leaflet! it really feels like the kind of video that you'd be linked to by a classmate or an online friend just for the "LOLZ so trippy wtf did i just see xD o_O" moment. the mo-capped 3D models with every bump, imperfection, and artifacts that comes with scanning real objects, placed onto 3D and projection-mapped faces, plus the animation and the colorful glitchy visuals. it's just really weird and really good.
the song itself is something i thought i'd fuck with heavy (pun intended) but i just like it. it might just be because it lacks a catchy chorus or hook. i ask myself, is this something i can sing or dance around to? maybe i'd jump around in the mosh pit, but for me that's about it. don't get me wrong, i love the idea and greatly encourage loving your computer. i'd be happy if this came on in the venue, but i'd go crazier if iPod Touch started playing.

i know this whole albums is pretty loaded with nostalgia, but this is a song that really distills pure liquid globs of it. fun, catchy, heartfelt.
i also wanted to note that in the middle part of the song, that strong almost acid-like bass from Fuck My Computer kicks in. there's a lot of musical cohesion in this album, which i have to give kudos to ninajirachi for. really lovely work.
the music video is more white girl dancing, but it has that classic windows movie maker intro with the default microsoft fonts all over the screen to the lyrics. the video initially played for 360p for me and i thought that was intentional. it's like they made a honeypot trap for me in song form. i really enjoy the minimal editing of this one just because that's what the song is about in a way.
the lyrics themselves are so fun, i talked about this already with Sing Good, but she's able to write in a way that succinctly evokes a time and place that is so oddly specific but so universal for those of us in her generation. i am so envious of this talent.
I've got a song that nobody knows - the first line already is incredible, reminding me of when i used to listen to all kinds of musicians on youtube and soundcloud that they'd never play on the radio, and that none of my friends would like.
It sounds like / iPod Touch yellow Pikachu case / FL Studio free download in my search history / Hidden underneath my pillow cause I should be asleep - like?? i love it, cause it's straight from the heart. the pikachu case especially evokes such a specific time. i can see it, cookie monster, domo, a cat playing the keyboard, those shirts with the little guys and violent animals on them. rating the littlest pet shop youtube videos 5 stars, hiding behind the chair over scary chain comments, searching how to get free membership on that game. i can't put it into words, it just rules.

a music video like this always delights and impresses me just because it takes so much editing down. plus the little easter eggs in the background are really fun to search around for. i also like the idea of her just looking at all these images and videos (she most likely didn't actually do all that, it's just edited to look that way). the specific visuals used throughout this video, and ILMC in general, just scratches a nice itch for me. cell towers, lines of code, retro websites and tech, hometowns, clipart, nostalgia.
i also love the computer just texting her randomly while she's scrolling. look, i think it's evident enough from this blogpost that i like computers. this just does it for me okay.

okay, this isn't about the music or the video. i just really wanted to show the one and only highlighted genius lyric for this song that made me laugh out loud.

with this album, ninajirachi is able to cover a wide range of experiences that come with growing up on the internet that not a lot of people are able to put so well. not to mention the music is incredible and calls back to those days with a modern punch. though her music skews more towards the trance and house genre, which is not particularly the type of music i usually frequent, i look forward to hearing more music from her. i can tell there's a lot of her own heart put into it and i wanna hear more of it!
